“There’s no place like home” and there is certainly, no place like The Clay Art Center. It is home to many hearts of artists and students alike. I first came to CAC in the ’80s when there were seven or eight people working and our holiday sale was more of a friends and family holiday party! After some years away, I returned when Reena took over and I’ve been here ever since. There has been an amazing transformation and expansion over the twenty-plus years but some things never changed. It isn’t often when you find a large group of artists all working in the same medium with no sense of competition. That’s the heart part. We support, nourish, teach, and help each other. I have had the pleasure of watching students start and learn and grow to a skill level they never thought possible. I have probably, make that definitely, learned as much from teaching as I have taught.

We share a lot more than clay. We have laughed, cried, celebrated, and mourned together, we are special to each other. And we love food! We celebrate the welcomes and the farewells with food, another talent we seem to share, our famous pot lucks.

Walking into the center lifts my spirits, especially now when nothing seems normal. There is an atmosphere of hope and possibility. We want to share what we love and we have developed so many ways for people to try their hands with clay. Whenever I meet someone and tell them what I do, they say ”that sounds like fun” or “I always wanted to try that.” Well, if you are one of them, you can!

Hope to see you there!
