Fall Arts Preview 2022

Join us this Fall to experience the best in ceramic arts by local and nationally recognized artists.

We will be hosting some exciting new and returning events including: an exhibition covering the theme of the family unit, a breast cancer awareness special event, our annual Hand in Hand benefit auction, and our yearly Clay Holiday Market.

We are offering a weekly program of Free Public Guided Exhibition and Studio Tours every Wednesday @11:30am starting 9/7. Visitors to Clay Art Center will be able to learn more about the artworks currently on view in the gallery, including in-depth looks at some of the exhibition highlights with the Exhibition Manager or Gallery Staff.

THE FAMILY PORTRAIT EXHIBITION (September 1 - October 15) explores the meaning and definition of the family unit in contemporary culture and society. Guest Juried by Kukuli Velarde, participating artists have responded to the theme by creating ceramic works that define what family means to them. The works presented explore the family unit in the broadest context that address and challenge traditional conceptions of what a family is, or could be.

This exhibition presents work from over 19 artists drawn from across the United States, and includes emerging and established ceramic artists. By using historical and cultural references in works that range from figurative to functional, and conceptual to playful, these artists invite us into a deeper conversation about the shifting landscape of the family unit.

Please join us on Thursday, September 15 from 6 - 8pm for the opening reception and to meet some of the participating artists.

View the exhibition online.

Register for a virtual artist talk with guest juror Kukuli Velarde and participating artists on Monday, September 19th at 7:00PM.

Free guided tours of the exhibition every Wednesday at 11:30AM starting 9/7.

SUSAN WORTMAN: WINGED WOMEN (October 1 - 31) is a special Breast Cancer Awareness Month Event taking place in the gallery. Clay Art Center Artist Susan Wortman will present 50 pieces from her “Winged Women” series. After a breast cancer diagnosis Susan Wortman began this series of hand-built porcelain sculptures to heal from the cancer experience and adjust to a mastectomy with reconstruction. Representing health, strength, and hope, the 50 sculptures of Susan's Winged Women series reflect the diversity and beauty of our imperfect bodies.. Each “Winged Woman” is a unique, hand-built sculpture made from paperclay. To Susan, each Winged Woman is a brave warrior and messenger of strength, health and hope. Fifty percent (50%) of the sale of each work of art will be donated to Cancer Support Team, a Westchester based non-profit organization that provides social work, nursing and in-home services to cancer patients and their families.

Meet The Artist Event, Monday October 3rd, 6.00 - 7.30pm
